How Music Rings a Bell with Business
This is my first blog post. While I have done quite a bit of writing in the past, none of it has been in the form of a blog.
So why would I choose this topic to write my first post on? Well, music has been an important part of my life for so many years that, to me, it seems like the perfect topic!
If you saw my About page, you know that I love all things music. My musical career started at an early age of three years old. My mom would teach me the words to songs, and we would sing them together. I went from singing to playing the piano, to the saxophone, and on to many other instruments.
In this post, I want to talk about ringing handbells, specifically solo handbell ringing. I have become proficient in handbells and specifically enjoy solo ringing (which not everyone can do!)
While I believe that playing handbells has helped my VA business, solo handbell ringing has taken that to the next level. How is that possible?
Well, solo handbell ringing has stepped up my thinking outside the box. On most instruments, like a piano, the keyboard is laid out for you – it is stable, unmovable. There is no way to move the keys around to help you play a musical piece better.
With handbells, you move the bells to where they help you ring the song to the best of your ability. It sounds simple in theory, but it is like putting a puzzle together to fit the music that would go with that puzzle.
This skill and experience have led me to become very flexible and adaptable to situations as they arise and to think of solutions that are ‘outside the box’. This has really helped me to bridge the difference between my music world and my business world.
In the business world, this is referred to as creative problem-solving. If you are limited in the way that you solve problems, you are limited with the number of solutions that you can create to solve problems.
By expanding your creative thinking, you are allowing limitless possibilities for solving problems. This permits you to create solutions that others would not even consider. Sharpening this skill is extremely beneficial in business, especially if you are the pilot of your own adventure.
